Outdoor Digital Signage & Small Businesses – Cost Effective Methods Of Implementation

Digital out of home advertising (Dooh) is a fast paced industry with new developments, implementations and technology arriving all the time. Many large scale advertisers and big business have been quick to take up this new advertising media and the expansion of out of home screens has now filtered outdoors.

Outdoor digital signage is becoming as widespread as indoor systems as more and more implementers realize the advantages, namely larger audiences and more passing traffic, but it can be a complicated issue.

There are many challenges to using screens outdoors, mainly concerned with protection from the elements, sunlight and the vulnerability in unsupervised areas where vandalism can be a problem.

Countering these challenges can often mean expensive solutions. Outdoor TVs capable of withstanding the weather and operating outdoor can be highly expensive – often many times the price of a standard commercial grade screen. And then you have to think of the physical protection especially as such a high investment is initially outlaid – the last thing you will want is an accident or even an incident of vandalism that will destroy the screen and take with it your investment.

For these reasons many implementers of outdoor digital signage are either large advertising companies or big businesses who can afford to outsource the project – but where does that leave the little man?

Actually, outdoor digital signage is not as financially prohibitive as it first appears and there arte opportunities for small businesses to get involved and avoid all the high costs available.

First of all, expensive outdoor screens are not essential. Obviously a standard screen can’t just be taken outdoors in the elements as it will soon fail; however, by utilising an outdoor LCD enclosure a standard device can operate in any outdoor location and can function perfectly well as inside the enclosure there are climatic controls to ensure the optimum conditions for operating the device.

Furthermore, LCD enclosures are also commonly made of steel and are fitted with shatterproof screens and other anti-vandalism methods, but best of all the combined cost of a standard commercial screen and LCD enclosure is still a fraction of a other outdoor digital signage solutions.
